Radio StarWe are very proud of our Vice President Laura Tate who made her radio debut on October 15th. Laura was one of the guests on Talk 650 KIKK-AM's Community Spotlight. The topic was "CAI, Community Management and Homeowner's Associations ... Then and Now". Community Spotlight is presented each Friday at 2:00 p.m. by the Greater Houston Chapter of the Community Associations Institute. The topic covered the history of community associations in the Houston area from the 1960's until now. Paul Marks (WaterLogic) was the host and Bob Eaton (former Executive Director of the Greater Houston Chapter of CAI), Ry Reid, CMCA (Arrow Community Management) and our Laura Tate, CMCA, AMS, PCAM (C.I.A. Services). Seventeen years ago, Laura started with C.I.A. Services as an administrative assistant. She worked with a number of community managers in a wide variety of communities to learn the details of our business. Because of her skills, performance and training, she was promoted to a community manager and began managing some of our established communities. Her experience and leadership skills eventually led to her promotion to Vice President and an appointment to the Board of Directors of C.I.A. Services. In addition to her corporate responsibilities, Laura manages one of our largest master-planned communities, the Summerwood Community Association and the Summerwood Commercial Association. Services Cheetahs in the Bandera Youth Soccer league rolled through a fun fall season finishing up with the play-off's in November. The Cheetahs are in the under 8 year division and competed against nine other area teams like the Thunder Dawgs, the Green Grasshoppers and the Mustangs. They finished the season with 5 wins, 2 losses and 1 tie. In the U8 division, there are 6 players on the field (including the goalie) and they play two 15 minutes halves on a smaller field using a smaller ball and a smaller goal. The players have fun and learn a few skills. Win or lose, they all have big smiles as they line up to high-five the other team as they leave the field. And then go to Dairy Queen for a frosty treat! Our players include Chloe, Elizabeth, Hannah, Jordan, Kylie, Logan, Luke, Raegan, Rian and Reese and under coach Jess. Congratulations to the Cheetahs on a fine season. Chef's ThrowdownC.I.A. Services is proud to have been a sponsor for the Westside Chef's Throwdown 2010 on November 13th at La Centerra at Cinco Ranch in Katy. The event incorporated elements of TV's "Iron Chef," "Top Chef" and "Throwdown with Bobby Flay" and highlighted the culinary creativity represented on greater Houston's west side while raising funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). The weather was beautiful and the activities great with food and wine samples, live music, a farmers market, cooking demonstrations and a kid's play area. Over 30 area restaurants including H-Town StrEATs Food Truck, Panera Bread, Ooh La La Sweets, Mooya Burgers and the Lasagna House (just to name a few) were there to compete offering divine dishes featuring this event's secret ingredient - pumpkin. Thanks to our volunteers that attended the event and handed out bottled waters to the attendees: Dawna Woods, Kim Easterling, Oralia Kalil, Libby Hodges, Candace DeRousselle and Paula Lunsford. In between manning our booth, we visited with two MD patients and they drew us a sweet memento. We also had the opportunity to sample the treats and no one left hungry! We cannot wait for next year. Wonder what the 2011 secret ingredient will be? We're MovingOur Southwest Office is moving! After more than 10 years in our current location, we will be moving a few miles away to a new convenient location near Beltway 8 and Richmond. Our new office will be at 3000 Wilcrest, Suite 200 in the Westchase District (map). Our new suite is under construction and we are on target to move at the end of December. We are scheduling the actual move so there will be no interruption in our service. Hockey in TexasFootball is king in Texas. But do you realize that Texas has more professional hockey teams than professional football teams?* We have 13 professional hockey teams - 1 in the National Hockey League (Dallas Stars), 3 in the American Hockey League (Houston Aeros, San Antonio Rampage and Texas Stars) plus 5 in the Central Hockey League, 2 in the North American Hockey League and 2 in the Western States Hockey League. So next time you are in Odessa, head to a Jackalopes game - you might see them playing the El Paso Rhinos! * In reality, there are more pro football teams in Texas. Heck, we have whole semi-pro football leagues in Texas. But can you name more than 13 Texas pro teams? Let's see: Houston Texans, Dallas Cowboys, San Angelo Spartans, South Texas Bonecrushers, Edinburg Landsharks, ... Our 13th Hockey Night with the Houston Aeros will be held on January 15th when the Aeros take on the Grand Rapids Griffins. The last time we scheduled Hockey Night against the Griffins, the game was canceled because the Griffins got stuck in a snowstorm up north and couldn't get here. We still chuckle about a hockey game in Houston getting postponed because of snow. In any case, the Aeros are battling in the middle of the division and need every win they can get to position themselves for the playoffs. The Griffins are in their way. Our 3rd Hockey Night with the San Antonio Rampage will be held on February 26th when the Rampage take on the Texas Stars. The Stars are the AHL affiliate of the Dallas Stars. Even though 2009/2010 was their inaugural season, they went all the way to the Calder Cup finals. This year, the Rampage are on top of the division riding a long winning streak. It helps that the Rampage acquired three top players from the Star's Calder Cup team. This game should be very interesting. Invitations will be mailed at the beginning of December (Houston) and January (San Antonio). To see photos of last year's fun, click Houston or San Antonio. Community of the MonthWe are proud of every one of our communities so it is always hard to find just one to highlight. We start by having each of our Community Managers write a nomination for one of their communities. We then read them and take a vote. Here are our most recent selections:
